The skate ministry of Crucified started in the summer 2006 with Josh, Ryan, and Travis renting out the Winder Rec skatepark each Tuesday and allowing free skating as a means to reach kids with the message of Christ. This plan developed mainly out of Josh working at Ski Den and realizing that the skate crowd usually did not go to church, or if they did, felt out of place there. Serving free hot dogs and letting kids skate for free, the only requirement Josh started was that he was going to share a message and he asked them to listen. The resulting interest, with 20 skaters listening more attentively than any youth group, or even adult congregation, that we've ever seen.
As fall rolled around, Winder park had to close, so a new location was needed. Thanks to God's providence,
a local businessman volunteered the second floor of his casket warehouse to use as a park. It was beat up,
there was (and still is) no heat, but it was free. Here's a few pictures of the
park through the years.
With a diving board propped on a cinder block as the only obstacle, the park was opened. It was called Life
Over Death as we were now celebrating our life in Christ on the second floor while the first floor housed
coffins. Through the years, many elements have been added, with us learning along the way proper building
techniques, usually learning the hard way.
